| "Archiv": 21/03/05 Liljas-Library.com reports that Frank Darabont made these comments about the possibility of The Mist movie: "THE MIST is a very scary and memorable story, one of Steve's best 'muscular' short pieces, with characters in the kind of pressure-cooker environment that nobody writes as well as King. I intend to be faithful to the material, so I think the movie will be good. Whether it's a studio picture or not, I want to go with a very gritty, low-budget indie approach. Big-budget gloss would work against the material, plus I'm excited about trying my hand at a more seat-of-the-pants filmmaking approach on this one than I've used in the past...I'll use whatever approach works best, I want to go as old-school as possible with the effects. It's a rather old-school story anyway; it feels like a movie that might have been made in the '50s. The thing to bear in mind about THE MIST is that you don't actually see that much as King wrote it; it's the stuff you don't see that scares you, sort of like in JAWS. I want to maintain the tension of King's story rather than overload the screen with CGI monsters". 26/09/04 Frank Darabont confirmed to SCI FI Wire that he plans to write and direct a film version of Stephen King's horror tale The Mist, which appeared as a short novel in King's Skeleton Crew collection. Darabont previously scored successes with The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, both of which were based on King stories. "I love the fact that The Mist is a pressure cooker that's character-driven and that's a down-and-dirty monster movie," Darabont said in an interview while promoting the upcoming 10th anniversary special-edition DVD of The Shawshank Redemption. "I just love it." Darabont added, "It's that wonderful Steve King taste in the mouth. I'm excited about getting back to my horror roots. I'm also excited about getting in there and shooting something down-and-dirty. I envision the monster barely glimpsed, just like in the story. These are things that you don't quite ever fully see. So I'm going to take a cue from everybody's godfather, Mr. Spielberg, and show the shark as little as possible," he added, referring to Steven Spielberg's Jaws. The writer/director added that he'll start work on the Mist script "next week," but wasn't sure when it would get made, as he's already attached to direct a Fahrenheit 451 remake and may also take on Mine, a thriller to be based on a Robert McCammon novel in which both the hero and the villain are female. "That one may go first," Darabont said. "It's all in the hands of the film gods." 14/02/04 Rosandra of Needful Things (http://home.cfl.rr.com/montequin/) also reports some comments by Darabont at the Santa Barbara Film Festival about The Mist: "He talked about how he'd love to shoot it in black and white, but that the studio would definitely nix that idea. He did say that he'd love to strike 2 or 3 prints of the film in black and white and show them exclusively in a few select theaters." 28/03/03: Darabont writing The Mist: Darabont says he hopes to write the script for The Mist before the end of 2003. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
